Wedding Cake Articles“Crucial Information You Need to Know Before Choosing a Wedding Cake Baker/Designer”Copyright © Edward Otto www.WeddingCakeSecretsExposed.com There are seven areas that you need to question: 1. The Bakery | 2. Sales staff | 3. Displays/photos | 4. Setup arrangements | 5. Cake types/fillings | 6. Decorator’s expertise | 7. Delivery process. This article will cover: TIER SET-UP.Ask: How many options do you have available in pillars, tubes, and stands?Set-up refers to the types and placement of pillars and/or stands or tubes that a cake shop/bakery has to offer. Many cake shops/bakeries only carry a couple of wedding cake pillar types and a couple of different tubes or stands. Baker/decorators who understand brides deserve a good variety have as many as 4-7 different types of pillars for you to choose from that are interchangeable with most wedding cake designs. In addition, they will carry 4-7 different stand or tube arrangements. Some baker/designers get creative and produce their own unique separators. They will use wine glasses, large candles, small lamps, glass spheres, bottles, and a host of other creative ideas. If this seems interesting to you, ask your baker/decorator if they offer unusual wedding cake tier separator ideas. Stands or tubes allow your wedding cake to have individual tiers without the use of pillars. This has become more popular within the last 5-7 years. If you want some added pizzazz to the table, you should take a look at your options. Wedding cake platforms are stands that are usually placed under your wedding cake. With the popularity of wedding cakes being stacked, wedding cake platforms have increased in usage. It helps give height to your wedding cake, where traditional tier separators had performed the service previously. An average baker/designer will offer 2 or 3 styles and sizes. A great baker/designer will offer 6 or more wedding cake platforms in various round and square sizes. Expect to pay a refundable deposit on any items used to separate tiers or elevate your wedding cake. Ask: How do you support the tiers to keep them from collapsing or preventing my cake from falling over? If your wedding cake is going to serve 200 guests, it will probably be four tiers high. When the baker/decorator puts the wedding cake together, they use some type of support system to keep the cake from collapsing under its own weight. You want to know how they do it. As odd as this seems, my research uncovered baker/decorators who only use minimal support or in some cases no support. If the baker/designer you speak with seems a little unclear with their explanation…RUN! Experienced baker/decorators all use systems that keep the wedding cake tiers level and from falling over or collapsing. Some tier systems are very expensive for the baker/decorator to buy, so you’ll have to return them to the shop. Expect to pay some sort of refundable deposit on them. Other baker/decorators use wooden doll rods, plastic doll rods, or heavy duty straws. Typically, you won’t be asked to bring those back. There are seven areas that you need to question: 1.
